The moment long awaited
All creation held its breath
Inside a virgin’s womb
Conceived the Son of God as man
The King who comes not to be served
But to give his life away
And though many can’t see it
This little baby from Nazareth
Will save humanity
Through his precious blood

Who goes before the Lord?
He is the greatest and the last
Of the prophets of old
Even before birth they had met
Sons of Elizabeth and Mary
John the Baptist and Christ
He leapt for joy at the sound

An angel came to deliver
The miraculous news
Zechariah was muted
Mary astonished but in delight
Both were righteous in God’s sight
Finding favour in his eyes
They share this beautiful joy

At Christmastime each year we celebrate
Awaiting Christ the King
Remembering the past
The promises that have been fulfilled

God’s words will never fail
